Guiyang in Southwest China's Guizhou province has been named a national pilot city for new consumption models, securing 300 million yuan ($42.86 million) in central government funding to cultivate fresh growth drivers and upgrade consumption.

Under the pilot program, the city will explore three priority directions.

It will accelerate the development of diversified and integrated consumption scenarios centered on nine categories: commercial blocks, food and beverage, nighttime economy, performances, sports events, mountain leisure, waterfront activities, rural consumption, and digital consumption, to stimulate both goods and services demand.

Guiyang will also strengthen its "first-launch economy" service system by utilizing unique local industries, including Guizhou embroidery, silverware, liquor, tea, specialty agricultural products, medicines, boutique coffee, craft beer, premium dining, and cultural creativity. Through new product releases, debut shows, and exhibitions, the city aims to build a "regional manufacturing, Guiyang launch" platform, and cultivate influential hubs for new product launches.

Additionally, focusing on "Guiyang Products", the city will promote cross-industry collaborations between high-quality consumption resources and well-known IPs. By integrating city brands such as "Cool Guiyang", roadside music concerts, summer performances, and sports events, Guiyang plans to incubate a portfolio of cross-branded products and develop a regional center for IP-based innovation, manufacturing, and promotion.
