During the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province have accelerated innovation-driven growth and significantly enhanced their industrial competitiveness.

In 2024, Guiyang ranked 27th among 101 national innovation-oriented cities and 4th among 20 such cities in western China, establishing itself as a leading innovator in the region. The area now hosts eight national-level science and technology innovation platforms and 36 national technologically-advanced "little giant" enterprises, further strengthening the foundation for innovation-driven development.

In the first half of 2025, the added value of large high-tech manufacturing enterprises in the city increased by 34.6 percent year-on-year. The new energy battery and materials industry grew 130.9 percent, while the new energy vehicle sector increased 30.1 percent.

Leading enterprises are playing an increasingly vital role. Guizhou Tyre Co was listed among the World Economic Forum's 2025 "Lighthouse Factories", making it both the first company in China's tire industry and the first in Guizhou province to earn this distinction.

PIX Moving developed an autonomous minibus that received Guizhou's first passenger test license, with products now exported to over 30 countries and regions – placing the company among the global leaders in autonomous driving.

Guizhou Aviation Technical Development Co has also built China's first fully automated production line for aerospace ring forgings.

Green development remains a defining feature. Guiyang and Gui'an are home to 40 national-level green factories, nine green industrial parks, and six green supply chain management enterprises, resulting in an increasingly robust low-carbon industrial system.
