Guiyang releases mid-year economic report for 2025

Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has released its mid-year economic report for 2025, showing steady overall performance in the first half of the year.

The city's GDP grew 5.5 percent year-on-year. General public budget revenue increased 4.6 percent, accelerating by 0.6 percentage points compared to the first quarter (Q1). Residents also saw continued income growth, with the per capita disposable income of urban residents rising 4.6 percent year-on-year and that of rural residents increasing 5.9 percent, in line with overall economic growth.

The city's agricultural and industrial sectors showed strong momentum. The total output of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fisheries grew 5.2 percent, 1.7 percentage points higher than in Q1 and 0.8 percentage points above the provincial average. Supplies of key agricultural and livestock products remained stable.

Meanwhile, the city's industrial added value rose 9.5 percent year-on-year, contributing 40.7 percent to overall economic growth, further cementing the sector's role as an economic stabilizer.

The service sector maintained stable growth, with its added value accounting for 64.3 percent of GDP, up 4.5 percent year-on-year and 0.2 percentage points higher than in Q1. Its contribution to economic growth also rose by 1.9 percentage points compared to the first quarter.

Consumption continued to expand, with total retail sales of consumer goods reaching 124.65 billion yuan ($17.38 billion) in the first half, up 5.3 percent year-on-year. This marks a 0.9 percentage point increase over Q1 and exceeds the provincial average by 1.3 percentage points.

Investment in innovation also surged, with high-tech industry investment increasing by 17.2 percent year-on-year, 14.7 percentage points higher than the city's overall investment growth.
