In recent years, Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province have been implementing a rural governance campaign that underscores the simultaneous management of drinking water, domestic sewage, and black and odorous water bodies.

They have focused on water supply, water sources, water quantity, water quality, and water prices in order to fully ensure the safety of drinking water for rural residents. They also optimized sewage treatment methods according to local conditions.

In the last year, continuous high temperatures, combined with the insufficient reservoir water storage, have caused water scarcity in some villages. In response to this issue, the Xifeng county water affairs bureau initiated an emergency drought-resistant water supply project to achieve interconnection and adjust water sources, helping to solve the water shortage problem.

According to statistics, in 2023, Guiyang carried out a total of 14 rural water supply projects, consolidating the water supply for 109,000 rural residents. The coverage ratio of large-scale rural water supply projects for rural residents reached 69.17 percent, ranking first in Guizhou province.

In 2023, Guiyang and Gui'an completed 80 provincial-level rural domestic sewage treatment tasks, as well as 71 municipal-level rural water management tasks.

In response to the difficult and costly problem of black and odorous water bodies in rural areas, Guiyang has constructed sewage collection pipe networks and centralized sewage treatment facilities, implemented rainwater and sewage diversion, and ensured the efficient operation of its sewage treatment facilities.

In addition, comprehensive measures, such as sludge removal, water diversion, artificial aeration, and ecological restoration, have been taken in order to build an aquatic ecosystem that is capable of self-purification. So far, Guiyang and Gui'an have improved 12 rural black and odorous water bodies.
