In 2023, Guiyang's digital economy accounted for over 50 percent of its GDP, providing crucial support for the province's leading position in digital economy growth.

Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has strategically focused on industry in order to boost its digital economy. It accelerated the development and expansion of two major industries, electronic information manufacturing and software and information technology services, by using an industry chain mindset.

In electronic information manufacturing, the city concentrated on the full industrial chain aggregation of servers and smart terminals. In 2023, the total output value of the city's large-scale electronic information manufacturing increased by 29.3 percent year-on-year.

In the software and information technology services sector, Guiyang has closely aligned its efforts with the construction of the Huawei Cloud ecosystem, aiming to expand its cloud services sector until it eventually becomes a leading industry.

By leveraging its computing power advantage, Guiyang has expedited the development of industries with heavy computing demands, such as artificial intelligence, the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, the metaverse, and animation.

In 2023, the city's revenue from software services exceeded 80 billion yuan ($11.15 billion), marking a 20.6-percent growth, while its cloud service revenue increasing by 30.4 percent.

Guiyang city and Gui'an New Area have emerged as one of the most powerful regions in terms of smart computing capabilities nationwide. Simultaneously, the regions have made significant efforts to expand bandwidth and reduce latency, as well as continuously expanding the bandwidth of the national internet backbone direct connection point in Guizhou. Both regions are committed to maintaining a capacity redundancy of over 30 percent and establishing direct connections with 38 cities, including Beijing and Shanghai.
