As of Aug 12, the output value generated by the industrial chain of forest-derived economy has exceeded 6.6 billion yuan ($918.40 million) in Guiyang City and Guian New Area, according to a statement by the Guiyang municipal bureau of forestry at a press conference.
As of Aug 12, Guiyang and Guian have utilized 1.39 million mu (92,506.67 hectares) of forest land to develop forest-derived economy, 6,664 mu of which is used to plant dictyophora rubrovolvata, while 2,380 mu is used for matsutake cultivation.
The development of forest-derived economy has benefited about 17,526 people by increasing their incomes by 1,914 yuan per month.
Since 2023, Guiyang and Guian have utilized its forest resources and cultivated its forestry industry with an emphasis on underwood planting.
This year's forest-derived economy development goal is to complete 100,000 mu of underwood planting. In order to achieve the goal, the bureau has assigned tasks to every district, zone and county, and supervised and guided all regions to scientifically select and develop varieties, such as edible fungi, medical herbs, in accordance with local conditions.
So far, the city has completed 87,200 mu of underwood planting, with a production of 22,500 metric tons worth 253 million yuan.
Guiyang and Guian have also introduced strong market entities and encouraged cooperation between enterprises and Stated-owned forest farms and farmer growers to expand underwood planting.
To date, Guiyang is home to 79 planting bases of edible fungi and medical herbs above a 100-mu size and 12 planting demonstration bases above a 500-mu size.
