Zhang Li, a resident of the Guanshanhu district of Guiyang – capital of China's Southwest Guizhou province – walked five minutes to take her child to school on the morning of April 14, then walked another 10 minutes to Xingminglu Station and took subway Line 2 to work.

With her house as the center, Zhang's needs for food and transportation can be basically met within a 15-minute walk.

Things have really improved for residents since Guiyang launched its "one circle, two lots and three reforms" program. The term "one circle" refers to a 15-minute living circle – covering education, culture, health, sports, food, housing and transportation for both young and old.

The "two lots" refers to parking lots and farmers markets and the "three reforms" refers to the renovation of old communities, backstreets and alleys.

These life circles are still increasing in the city. In 2022, 67 circles were established in Guiyang and another 41 will be introduced this year to cover all circles within the urban area.

Peng Shunlong, a 70-year-old resident who has lived in a home for the elderly in Guiyang for more than a year, took advantage of the sunny weather on April 15 to take a walk in the yard.

The leisure and recreational life of the elderly in the building is great and there are reading rooms, as well as chess rooms, among other facilities.

"The home offers great food and doctors and professional carers to take care of our health," Peng said.

Guiyang and the Guian New Area, a State-level new area which is partly located in Guiyang, are also promoting the development of 15-minute pension service circles and 15-minute fitness circles for residents.
