The city of Guiyang – and the nearby Guian New Area – in Southwest China's Guizhou province is to accelerate the development of an inland open economy pilot zone, in a bid to make every effort to promote its opening-up to achieve new breakthroughs, according to a work conference held on March 12.

It is part of Guizhou province's strategic positioning to create a new inland open economy highland.

The conference determined that it was necessary to speed up the transformation of the advantages of Guiyang's airport hub into the advantages of industrial development, to give full play to the role of comprehensive bonded zones and development zones. It said the city should promote the development of foreign trade, foreign investment and foreign economy through foreign-funded projects, to provide strong support for the expansion of the export-oriented economy.

Guiyang and Guian plan to innovate the local service trade led by the digital economy, firmly grasp the opportunities of the digital economy, as well as actively cultivate various new formats and new models – and better demonstrate the characteristics of the development of the digital economy.

In addition, plans are for an open economic platform to be created. Various events – including the Big Data Expo, the China-ASEAN Education Exchange Week and the Annual Conference of the International Mountain Tourism Alliance – will be leveraged to promote more exchanges and cooperation in Guiyang and Guian.

The two are set to improve their support policy system and strengthen financial services, logistics and distribution and other support facilities.

What's more, they are pivoting to develop a market-oriented, rule-of-law and international first-class business environment for the development of the open economy.
