Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, and the nearby Guian New Area made great efforts to improve people's living standards in 2022.

A group of livelihood projects were carried out last year. These included improving public cultural services, medical systems, education, employment and the natural environment, as well as the renovation of old neighborhoods.

At Guizhou province's recent annual legislative and political consultative meetings, livelihood improvement projects were highlighted in a report.

The report stressed the significance of boosting employment, increasing local income, fixing the shortcomings in education, medical care and old-age pension systems, as well as expanding the coverage of the social security system.

It is considered as a guideline that will set the direction for Guiyang and Guian to further safeguard people's livelihood this year.

Local governmental departments have collected public feedback on key livelihood improvement projects, such as the "15-minute living circles", through Wechat groups, posters, questionnaires, face-to-face interviews and more.

Guiyang and Guian will gather more quality educational resources through primary and middle schools affiliated with Renmin University and Minzu University.

Guiyang and Guian plan to help 132,000 households in shanty towns and 134,000 families in old communities to renovate their homes in 2023. By 2025, an upgraded urban infrastructure network will be launched and an additional 5 million square meters of urban area will be covered with greenery.
