Ecological conversation to deliver more benefits

Guiyang and Guian in Southwest China's Guizhou province will continue to coordinate efforts in ecological conservation and economic growth in 2023 to build a green city with blue sky and clear water, local media reported.

In 2023, Guiyang and Guian, the provincial capital and a new development zone in Guizhou, will push efforts to take the lead in the country in building its ecological civilization. They will prioritize ecological conservation, and strengthen efforts in plantation and forestry governance.

Since 2015, Guiyang and Guian authorities have organized Fresidents to plant trees on the first work day following the Spring Festival holiday. So far, more than 610,000 trees have been planted in a 10,243-mu (683 hectare) area.

Zhang Kai, deputy director of the State-owned Changpoling Forest Farm in Guiyang, has participated in the voluntary tree planting activities for eight consecutive years. "Over the years, we are very proud to see that the forests in Guiyang and Guian are increasing and that the forest coverage rate is rising. We hope that through such tree planting activities involving the whole community, more people will learn about forest protection," Zhang said.

In 2023, Guiyang and Guian authorities pledge to plant more trees to ensure that the forest coverage rate maintains at more than 55 percent, taking the lead among provincial capital cities. Their goal is to win the honor of "National Forest City".

In recent years, Guiyang and Guian have taken advantage of their ecological resources, and have developed a new agricultural economy through forest planting in order to achieve the goal of "ecological conservation, economic development, and income increase for farmers".

In 2023, Guiyang and Guian will continue to vigorously develop their "under-forest economy" to help local farmers while also keeping ecological conservation in mind.
