The development and reform bureau of Guanshanhu district – located in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – has set targets and drafted methods to contribute to the district's development of a new type of urbanization.
The 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) proposed China pursue a people-centered, new type of urbanization strategy. Involving simultaneous urbanization and modernization – through the integrated development of urban and rural areas – it will be supported by new smart cities, smart governance, the green environment and digital technologies.
The bureau has reportedly drafted an implementation plan for accelerating the new type of urbanization.
It is said to focus on expanding the district's scale, strengthening the urban and rural economy, improving the city's overall conditions, streamlining municipal services and deepening urban and rural integration.
The bureau is understood to have tasked all district departments with carrying out their designated responsibilities and completing set tasks for the initiative.
In 2021, the bureau has applied for 1.25 billion yuan ($192.82 million) of budget funds from the central government for 35 projects, while applying for additional provincial and municipal funds.
Moving forwards, the bureau will identify the latest policies and requirements of the new type of urbanization. It plans to coordinate with all departments to get for policy and financial support, to ensure its implementation.
