In the first quarter of this year, Huaxi district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, reported a year-on-year increase of 8.2 percent in the total output value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fisheries. The output value of these industries totaled 705.19 million yuan ($108.74 million).
The total output of the city's vegetables, strawberries, edible mushrooms and spring tea amounted to 57,726 metric tons, 890 tons, 1,502 tons and 104 tons, year-on-year increases of 14.31 percent, 72.56 percent, 118.06 percent and 22.35 percent, respectively.
Also, 13,029 live pigs were slaughtered, up 18.83 percent year-on-year, and 170,998 birds were slaughtered, up 13.23 percent year-on-year.
In addition, the total output of meat grew by 19.85 percent to 1,597 tons.
Since the beginning of this year, Huaxi district has continued to adjust the structure of its agricultural industry. It has developed high-efficiency and high-income industries based on high-quality vegetables, fruits and teas.
The district has also promoted key agricultural economic projects and agricultural investment promotion projects to boost agricultural development.
In addition, it has created a special brand – "Huaxiaomei" – for Huaxi-grown strawberries and made every effort to build a regional public brand to increase the incomes of growers.
