Guanshanhu district – located in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- signed agreements with companies to promote the development of its so-called buildings economy at a news conference held on July 9, according to local officials.

The relatively new term buildings economy refers to the idea that buildings and the economy in the future integrate in an unprecedented way. Buildings will be no longer limited to units in the property market, but instead be economic drivers.

Analysts say that, moreover, the impetus for the development of the buildings economy has shifted from being market-oriented to technology-driven.

A number of measures and policies on the development of the buildings economy were issued at the conference.

These involved the scope of its applications and securing further investments, among other things

Guanshanhu reportedly came top of a comprehensive evaluation of the economic development of the province's districts and counties in 2018 and 2019. In addition, it was awarded the title of "China's Top 100 Small and Medium-sized Districts with the Most Investment Potential" for four consecutive years, from 2016 to 2019.

Statistics showed that the district has attracted investments of 6.6 billion yuan ($940.95 million) since the start of the year, 55 percent of its annual target for 2020. It has also signed deals on 36 industrial projects.

To date, the district's total area of commercial buildings cover about 5.55 square kilometers, with 1.7 square kilometers still available.

In order to give full play to the advantages in developing the buildings economy, the district invited leading international real estate consulting companies to participate in the design.

It also issued policies, to support the development of enterprises that have settled in the commercial buildings.

In addition, the district has joined hands with the local construction industry association, talent industry association and exhibition industry association to secure reliable investment. It has provided financing services to companies who have settled in -- and improved support facilities in commercial buildings.

The district will strengthen its overall planning and coordination of building resources to optimize the allocation, promoting the growing cluster of enterprises and industries.

Taking Guizhou Financial City as a pilot model, it plans to provide more efficient government services to businesses that have settled in the commercial buildings.
